Breaking News: 4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Causes Power Outages in Cushing

4.0 Earthquake Causes Power Outages in OklahomaTwo earthquakes have rocked residents near Cushing, Oklahoma Thursday night.

At 8:16 p.m. a magnitude 4.0 earthquake was reported three miles west of Cushing. Not long after at 9:00 p.m., a 3.4 magnitude quake shook the same area.

According to residents there are power outages being reported but no injuries reported at this time.

Oklahoma has been experiencing a record number of earthquakes this year. And the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has conformed suspicions that the earthquake increase is not from natural causes. The increase has been instead linked to disposal wells used by the oil and gas industry.

Stay tuned for more information.

Featured Business: The Little Bubble

The Little Bubble is a local handmade soap and bath products company in Oklahoma. It was started by 11 year old, AnnaBella. She uses natural, organic and sustainable ingredients for her products.

She sells her products on Etsy and at several local stores around Oklahoma. We got the chance to talk to AnnaBella about her products and she had a lot of great things to tell us.

Featured Business: The Little Bubble

GO: What was your motive for starting The Little Bubble?
AnnaBella: I started The Little Bubble as a homeschool project, I made lip balm and scrubs first and then learned to make natural soap. I’m allergic to a lot of preservatives, so I wanted to make things I could use without getting itchy!

GO: Why is it important that your business is eco-friendly?
AnnaBella: My family has always tried to be as eco-friendly as possible, to help our environment. We have a responsibility to our planet and to each other. I want to make sure the world is safe for when I’m grown up.

GO: What’s the best advice you have ever gotten about going green?
AnnaBella: My granny always reuses things, like jars & containers. I guess that is the best advice, I keep & reuse a lot of my supply tubs, and jars, and always ask my customers to reuse our jars for something awesome! Also I’ve learned to conserve the energy I use to make certain things. And that saves me money!

Featured Business: The Little Bubble

GO: What is one of your favorite products you offer?
AnnaBella: I love lip balm! But my next favorite thing is a tie between bath bombs and bubble bars. I love a good bath.

GO: Why do you feel it’s important to support locally owned businesses?
AnnaBella: Because when you help a local business you are helping your helping families, and friends. You get to see your money help your community.

GO: What is your favorite thing to do in Oklahoma?
AnnaBella: My new favorite thing is road trips. I love going to see new places in Oklahoma! Little towns I have never seen. It’s always an adventure and so much fun.

GO: Other than your own business, what is your favorite eco-friendly business in Oklahoma?
AnnaBella: I love Urban Agrarian! They have great plants, food and other cool things.

Featured Business: 2 Green Chicks

2 Green Chicks is a cleaning and organizing service in Norman, Oklahoma. They are committed to using eco-friendly practices for a reasonable price.

We got the chance to speak to Amy, the owner of 2 Green Chicks, and here is what she had to say about 2 Green Chicks and going green.

Featured Business: 2 Green Chicks

GO: What was your motive for starting 2 Green Chicks?
Amy: Knowing that many of the chain cleaning companies use products that are harmful to home surfaces, customers, and employees, I wanted to find a way to do better.

GO: Why is it important that your business is eco-friendly?
Amy: I have a 4 year old and I think it’s important to teach the younger generation about eco-friendly practices such as green cleaning and recycling.

There are so many benefits that green cleaning provides including: better air quality in your home, safer chemicals for employees and clients to use and safe for pets as well! We use HEPA filter vacuums with reusable/washable bags and all of our products are no or low VOC’s. We also (in 2015) are going to be introducing our “NEW Chemical FREE cleaning”!! So stay tuned!

GO: What’s the best advice you have ever gotten about going green?
Amy: I am a member of ARCSI and every day I learn from my peers about good and bad cleaning practices. But the most valuable advice stuck with me which is – always keep an eye out for new techniques and products. So that’s what I try to do! I try them out in my own home to ensure they work before making it a permanent product/technique in our company.

GO: What is one of your favorite services you offer?
Amy: Organizing! It’s my true passion – give me a messy closet and I’m a happy girl! I also have had my sidekick Hallie with me for almost 2 years now and she loves it as much as I do!

GO: Why do you feel it’s important to support locally owned businesses?
Amy: Because you get to meet the heart and soul of a company. Very seldom do you find a local company where you aren’t dealing with the brains behind the business.

Knowing your dollar has gone to not only a community member, but a business owner you trust makes every purchase that much more special. How could you not love visiting Campus TV & Music and talking to Joe while you get keys made and petting his pet cat Charlie? You don’t get that at Home Depot!!

GO: What is your favorite thing to do in Oklahoma?
Amy: Of course OU football is a must and visiting all of the fun festivals and fairs in town!

GO: Other than your own business, what is your favorite eco-friendly business in Oklahoma?
Amy: I’m a big fan of The Earth Cafe/Deli and Grocery – Richard & Kate truly live “green” to the fullest!
