Over the past several years, subscription boxes have taken the world by storm. A quick Google search reveals that there are subscription boxes for practically everything under the sun. But, how many of these companies have taken up the cause of green living? Are there any subscription boxes that align with your passion for the environment and the world?

Unfortunately, most do not.

But there are a few that go above and beyond to deliver incredible products that support a green lifestyle. Today, we’re going to take a closer look at three of these excellent and eco-friendly subscription boxes: Petit Vour, Grove Collaboration, and Love Goodly.

Eco-Friendly Subscription Boxes

Petit Vour

A lifestyle brand that maintains an online store in addition to its popular subscription box, Petit Vour is a one-stop-shop for beauty. Founders Madelline Alcot and Ryan Miner started the company in 2012, after realizing how difficult it was to discover beauty products that don’t harm people, animals, or the environment.

Each month, the Petit Vour beauty box ships to customers and features 4-5 fantastic beauty products, including beauty, fragrance, hair, skin, and body care items. Some products are samples, while others are full size.

Each box costs $18 per month, but the products inside add up to a $45-60 value. With each box you receive, you order 400 PV points (worth $4) that you can use on other products in their store.

How Petit Vour Supports Green Living

Petit Vour has made it its mission to provide products that are both sustainable and vegan. Each of these initiatives helps to support the planet since ingredients derived from animals tend to have a significant impact on the environment.

The company maintains a shortlist of about thirty different ingredients they forbid in their products. These include ingredients derived from animals, ingredients that we know are dangerous for humans, and a bunch of ingredients that are harmful to the planet.

Butylated compounds such as BHT and BHA are forbidden from the products they sell. These ingredients are found in many moisturizers and some makeup as well. Not only are these ingredients potentially dangerous to you, but they’re also toxic to aquatic organisms, and the substances bioaccumulate in marine species, eventually killing them.

Triclosan is another ingredient popular in beauty products, and some home products as well. This chemical breaks down slowly and combines with other toxins to create dioxins. These new toxins are incredibly toxic to aquatic life and are contributing to the destruction of our oceans and waterways.

Petite Vour also bans sunscreen ingredients like oxybenzone from their products. These ingredients are exceptionally destructive to our coral reefs, and even trace amounts are enough to damage coral colonies irreparably.

The company also avoids using heavy metals in any of its products, which are often created as a byproduct of industrial waste, which pollutes the air and atmosphere.

Finally, Petit Vour also strictly forbids the use of animal products in their subscription boxes. The livestock industry is a significant contributor to the breakdown of the environment. Not only do the animals create waste, but the industry also requires tons of land and equipment to operate.

Animal-based products contribute to more carbon and harmful byproducts being released into the atmosphere. They also contribute to toxic wastewater being released into our waterways, which further contribute to environmental stress and destruction.

Grove Collaborative

We often forget to consider the impact that household products have on ourselves, our families, and the environment. The founders of Grove Collaborative spent some time studying that impact, and they were shocked at how few options they had for sustainable and green home products.

Today, Grove offers a full line of products for the home, as well as some great health, beauty, and personal care items as well. Grove Collaborative also makes it easy for you to get the products you need, and they deliver them to you on a predictable schedule, so you’ll never have to worry about running out.

How Grove Collaborative Supports Green Living

When it comes to sustainability and living green, Grove Collaborative goes above and beyond, providing its customers with products that are safe for their families, safe for the environment, and better for the earth.

Grove Collaborative is a Certified B Corporation. To achieve this certification, a company must meet the highest levels of social and environmental performance. Grove scores nearly perfect marks for their ecological and social consciousness.

As you’d imagine, they put their money where their mouth is when it comes to the products they offer. All of the products available from GC meets their strict standards for efficacy, sustainability, and non-toxicity. All products are also cruelty-free.

At the supplier level, a product itself meets Grove Collaborative’s stringent standards. Products must be plant-based, non-toxic, and cruelty-free. From there, GC evaluates its supply chain, ensuring that everything is ethically produced and sustainable.

Beyond the national brands GC sells, which you’re probably already familiar with, they also manufacture their own products, too. These Grove-made products set the highest standards for sustainability and ethical manufacturing.

The name of the company isn’t a coincidence, either. The collaborative behind Grove Collaborative is made up of some of the most influential and experienced doctors and scientists in the business. This collaborative is continually creating innovative new products and environmentally conscious packaging designed to reduce the impact of every product sold.

One of Grove Collaborative’s most ambitious and impactful initiatives involves the planting of one million new trees in the US by 2022. This initiative is tied to their tree-free paper products, such as paper towels and toilet paper. Every purchase helps GC get closer to its goal of one million trees.

Grove Collaborative also recognizes that delivering your shipments means more trucks on the road, which translates to higher emissions that damage the environment. To combat this, Grove Collaborative carbon offsets all of their deliveries by purchasing credits that fund environmental projects like wind farms, solar installations, and more.

Beyond home products, Grove has also partnered with Roven, a company that manufacturers clean and ethical beauty products. Like GC, Roven partners only with the most ethnically and environmentally conscious brands to bring customers beauty products that work well while also being better for the environment.

Love Goodly

Love Goodly is another beauty box that emphasizes cruelty-free ingredients, sustainability, and environmental consciousness. The company has a broad assortment of different health, beauty, and personal care products, as well as some eco-friendly gifts and home items.

Love Goodly was founded by two highly-driven ladies who sought to reduce the number of harmful chemicals and additives that make up many of the most popular health and beauty products on the market.

You can purchase products from Love Goodly a la carte or subscribe to one of their bi-monthly boxes. Depending on the box you choose, you’ll receive 4-6 full-size premium beauty and wellness products every other month.

How Love Goodly Supports Green Living

While the company was founded to bring healthier and less damaging beauty products to women, the folks at Love Goodly extend their mission of doing good to the world as well.

Similar to Petit Vours, Love Goodly has an extensive list of ingredients that they ban in all the products they sell. These ingredients include many of the worst offenders in the health and beauty industry concerning how they affect the environment. Plus, all of these banned ingredients are also terrible for people, too, so avoiding them is good for your health.

Their list of banned ingredients includes phthalates, oxybenzone, and other sunscreen ingredients, triclosan, heavy metals, and more
.
With each purchase you make, Love Goodly also contributes to some amazing different organizations that fight for animal rights, including the Farm Sanctuary, Paw Works, and the Beagle Freedom Project. The company also donates to several foundations that help fund cancer research.

One of their partners, the Orangutan Alliance, is especially important, as they work tirelessly to counteract the deforestation that the palm oil industry has caused. This deforestation not only robs the earth of its forests, but it also leaves these scores of orangutans without a place to live.

Palm oil is a popular additive in many different products, and vast swaths of forest are being wiped out in favor of farmland. The Orangutan Alliance works to protect these animals and their habitat, which in turn is a significant help for the environment.

Beyond their subscription boxes, Love Goodly has a full catalog of products. Products are grouped by the causes that each manufacturer stands for. So, you can quickly narrow your product search based on whether or not the brand supports sustainability and ecological responsibility.

Subscription boxes are an excellent way to try new products and save money doing it. Companies like Petit Vour, Grove Collective and Love Goodly make it easier for you to get excellent new products while also making choices that will help the environment.

Each of these companies focuses on sustainability and green living, so you can feel great about the products you try!
