Plastic straw bans are becoming more common leaving people looking for plastic straw alternatives, thankfully there are many reusable straw and compostable straw options.

Plastic straws are being banned by cities and eliminated by restaurants and businesses, in a move to reduce single-use plastic.

It’s a movement that is growing fast with Bon Appétit, a large food service company, even announcing it’s banning plastic straws from all of its cafes in 33 states. They said they will be transiting to paper straws instead.

Straws and stirrers make up more than 7 percent of the plastic products found in the environment. Considering in 2014 alone, Americans tossed out more than 33 million tons of plastic it’s clear plastic is a big problem.

It seems like a small step but it’s an easy step that we can all take. It’s also one many of us have been compelled to take after seeing a video of a sea turtle with a straw in its nose.

Plastic Straw Alternatives

Giving up plastic straws doesn’t mean you can’t use straws anymore. There are a lot of great reusable options and plastic-free options available now. Many are even great for carrying with you.

Many of these options are also great for businesses. Many businesses around Oklahoma are moving away from plastic straws, like the Oklahoma City Zoo and many restaurants as well.
