Zoos are a great way to help kids connect with nature and learn about animal conservation. Oklahoma has two wonderful zoos to visit this summer. The Oklahoma City Zoo has a lot of wonderful new things for you to check out like Sanctuary Asia. The Tulsa Zoo is also always a fun place to visit.
Too hot to be outside, why not check out Science Museum Oklahoma? The science museum is a hands-on way for kids to learn about science. You can also check out an IMAX movie while you are there.
Oklahoma has some beautiful places to visit that help us appreciate nature. One of those places is the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur. There is a lot to do in the area including a nature center, small waterfalls, a lake, camping areas, and a lot of beautiful water areas to enjoy. Bring a picnic lunch and some swimsuits and you can have a wonderfully fun day. It’s also not far from Turner Falls, another great park.
Other fun parks to visit in Oklahoma are Lake Eufaula State Park and the Great Salt Plains. Outdoor activities are such a good reminder of why we need to protect our planet.
Learning about history can help us understand why we need to protect nature today. A great place to learn about natural history is at the Sam Noble Museum in Norman. The first Monday of every month is free which makes it an even better summer activity. Also, be sure to check their website often as they have fun activities all year.
There are many great pick your own farms around Oklahoma. They are a fun way to get some fresh produce. And for kids, it can be a way to get them to try some new foods. Farmer’s markets are a fun activity as well and there are several around Oklahoma.
You could also go on a road trip to see new parts of the state. Choose a road trip close to you to avoid using too much gas and keep your trip more eco-friendly. You could also have a fun weekend getaway to OKC.
Oklahoma City is also a great place for a couple’s weekend getaway. There are so many things to do in Oklahoma City you could plan multiple trips this summer!
Another unique place to visit in Oklahoma is St. Francis of the Woods in Coyle, Oklahoma. Marisa Mohi shared some interesting information about this hidden gem.
“St. Francis of the Woods is the perfect destination for a family that is looking to slow down and find some quiet. One part spiritual retreat center, one part working farm, St. Francis of the Woods has cabins of all shapes and sizes, and each cabin has a working kitchen. There is no WiFi or TV, but there is an abundance of peace and quiet.
For entertainment, there’s a library and a walking trail, and guests can go see the farm animals or feed the ducks at the pond. The retreat center is also actively involved in prairie restoration projects. If you’re looking for a place where you can get away from screens and enjoy the company of your loved ones.”
You can read about Marisa’s solo writing retreat to St. Francis of the Woods on her blog.
